PIR Sensors

PIR sensors detect the infrared light emitted by all objects with a temperature above absolute zero. Sensinova’s PIR sensors are finely tuned to recognize the specific infrared signature of human presence, making them perfect for applications requiring accurate motion detection, such as security systems, lighting control, and energy management solutions. By only activating when human movement is detected, they help save energy and increase the longevity of devices.

How PIR Works

Passive Infrared (PIR) sensors detect changes in heat. The sensor is divided into zones (the pie slices). When a warm object (you!) crosses from one zone to another, the sensor sees a voltage spike. If you stay perfectly still, the sensor 'forgets' you are there because there is no change in heat!
